Slovenia got its first ever Olympic track and field gold medal through Primoz Kozmus. A silver medalist at the world championships last August, Kozmus has taken his first gold medal in the Men’s Hammer Throw at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games with a season best of 82.02 meters.
Athens 2004 fourth place finisher Vadim Devyatovskiy claimed silver by beating three time world champion Ivan Tsikhan, who claimed bronze with a 81.51 meter throw. Defending Olympic champion Koji Murofushi from Japan placed fifth at 80.71.
“ I am happy. This is my dream come true. I am very satisfied with the result.” Said Kozmus on his victory.
