On Saturday, almost 1,500 people gathered on the streets of Russia to protest against Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. The citizens of Russia are angry with Vladimir Putin for not able to handle the worst economic fall in a decade properly.
The people demanded the dismissal of Vladimir Putin’s government and to conduct direct elections for governors, scrapped in 2004. The furious protestors were holding banners that were mainly focussed on economic demands, including reversing recent hikes in charges for municipal services, increasing pensions, and cutting taxes on the import of used cars, a major industry in the Pacific port city.
Alexander Krinitsky, an activist with the Solidarity movement and one of the protest leaders, said, “People have been left without the means to live, and they blame the government. We have no choice but to take to the streets."
Protester, Sergei Khudenkykh, told, "What the government has done to us is outrageous. I don't understand who my little business bothered."
