Smita Patil Memorial Award given in remembrance of classical actress late Smita Patil has been bestowed this year to popular actress Preity Zinta. According to NGO Priyadarshini Academy which governs the award every year since 1984, Preity has been selected for her outstanding contribution in Hindi film industry. Interestingly Preity Zinta had played an excellent and exemplary role in ‘Kya Kahna.’ The award is recognition for contribution of person to Hindi film industry. Actresses such as Urmila Mantodkar, Madhuri Dixit, and Karishma Kapoor have been awarded earlier for their contribution to Hindi film industry.

The award would be presented to her in the month of September. The award is highly acclaimed, for Smita Patil was considered a sensitive and progressive actress and her immature demise has been a great loss to Hindi cinema. The award is an effort to remember her and is given to some one for similar kind of contribution which Smita did. Last year popular actress Kareena Kapoor was awarded for her contribution to Hindi cinema. Preity Zinta started her career as model with Cadbury and debuted against Shah Rukh Khan in the film ‘Dil Se,’ and thereafter she did not look back.
