Republican US Presidential candidate John McCain's supporters got into damage control on Monday, September 1 after the news of the daughter of vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin being five months pregnant became public. As it is the US presidential campaign is already so much embroiled in gender politics and this news expected to cause a further stir. 

A couple of hours prior the start of the conference, a statement was released but neither Sarah Palin nor her husband Todd reveal when their 17 year old daughter Bristol informed them that she was pregnant.  The statement however mentioned that Bristol intends to marry the father and this decision was clearly welcomed by religious heads as well as Republican delegates.  

While campaigning in Ohio and Pennsylvania John McCain did not take questions from the media. Supporters, however, state that the Republican candidate for the US presidential post was aware of the Palin family's situation at the time he announced Sarah Palin as his running mate. The supporters of McCain have threatened that action will be taken if the media tries to pry into the private lives of the Palin family.
