President Pratibha Patil on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 preferred a closely coordinated approach by the G-4 nations to find a place for the countries in the expanding UN Security council. While addressing the Brazilian senators, Pratibha Patil remarked that the strategic partnership between the G-4 nations is founded on convergence of world views and a shared vision of a new multi-polar world order. The G-4 nations, which include India, Brazil, Japan and Germany have been making resolute efforts for permanent membership in the Security Council.
President Pratibha Patil’s speech was, however, sparsely attended, which a senator explained was owing to the fact that during special sessions only leaders of the political party were invited. In her address, Mrs. Patil, speaking on the co-relation between India and Brazil, remarked that both the countries face the primary challenge of economic development, which they seek to overcome within the framework of democracy.
