The External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee is likely to visit Sri Lanka to resolve the issue of Lankan Tamils. The current move from the government of India is the result of pressure from Tamil Nadu government as well as from the International community. The government of India has been constantly trying to settle the conflict by talking to the Mahinda Rajapakse government of Sri Lanka.
Actually, it was Sri Lankan government who decided to meet the Indian Foreign Minister. However, the exact date and time of Pranab Mukherjee's visit to Sri Lanka has been not finalized yet. Meanwhile report says that a high-level delegation of MPs is likely to come to India to brief the government on the military operation. The Lankan army is reported to fasten its operation and claimed to have entered the last defences of the LTTE in Kilinochchi.
Indian government is not concerned about Sri Lanka's war against terrorism. The main issue of concern for India is the humanitarian plight of Tamil civilians in Sri Lanka. The government of India wants to hold the Colombo government to its political settlement with the Tamils. PM Manmohan Singh urged President Mahinda Rajapakse to take care of the rights and welfare of the Tamil community of Sri Lanka. He said that the rights of Lankan Tamils should not be demolished in the ongoing hostilities against the LTTE.
