An array of global as well as local issues, including the border dispute and Tibet, will probably be taken up when the Indian Foreign Minister, Pranab Mukherjee visits China next month. The visit of the Indian minister to China has been scheduled from 4 June to 7 June at the behest of the Chinese foreign minister, Yang Jiechi.
After the visit of Indian Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh to China earlier in January 2008, this will be the second most important visit to that country by a high placed Indian dignitary. During the visit of Dr Manmohan Singh, India and China had inked a joint communique on strategic partnership between the two countries.
Officials from the Ministry of External Affairs informed on Thursday, May 29, that Pranab Mukherjee would also call on the Chinese premier, Wen Jiabao. It was also informed that this visit to China by Mr Mukherjee will help in providing a fresh boost to the 'strategic partnership agreement' between the two nations.
So far, India has kept from issuing any hurting remarks to China on the way it had been dealing with the Tibet issue. It was informed that Pranab Mukherjee will also inaugurate the new consulate-general in Guangzhou.
