Indian tennis aces Prakash Amritraj and Sunitha Rao have surged forward in their respective sections to qualify for the impending Wimbledon Championships by securing contrasting first round wins in the qualifying competition. Jean-Rene Lisnard was defeated by the Indian Davis cupper Prakash Amritraj in straight sets in men`s singles. On the other hand, Sunitha Rao who is a fed cup member emerged from behind to win against Raquel Kops-Jones a three setter in the ladies` singles event.
 
The ATP charts ranks Amritraj at 311. He defeated Lisnard who is higher ranked than him by 6-2 7-6 (4) to move on to the second round successfully.  In 2005, Lisnard, who occupies the 218 slot, had reached the second round of the Wimbledon Championship. It will be 13th seed Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky whom Prakash Amritraj will take on in the next round. Sunitha defeated Raquel by 5-7 7-5 6-4 in her opening match. She will be playing against either Russia’s Olga Puchkova or Tara Moore of Great Britain.
