Nepal's first Maoist Prime Minister Prachanda promises to follow Panchsheel Principle in its external affairs with neighboring states. His latest move has come at a telecast message where he spoke for 15 minutes and delivered his maxims on Maoist's foreign policy. He said that that his government's priority will be to protect the republic's sovereignty of Nepal and maintain friendly relations with neighboring states.

Factually, Panchsheel (Five Principles) are high water mark in external affair of India with India's neighboring states. These principles first time came in to existence in Nehru era of India in relations with China. Indo-China relations are based on the same principles. The principles include mutual non-aggression, mutual non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, peaceful co-existence, and territorial integrity and sovereignty

The statement has come at a time when Nepal has alleged that India is interfering in Nepal's internal affairs. Interestingly, Maoists, before coming into power in Nepal had promised to scrap all partial treaties and agreements with India, which according to them favor India. The Maoist leader has urged world community and neighboring states to come forward and provide moral and physical support in the 'historic transition' of Nepal.
