Pushp Kumar Dahal alias Prachanda, 53 year old Maoist revolutionary, has become democratically elected Prime Minister of Nepal. Another Maoist leader Baburam Bhattarai termed the election of Prachanda a ‘golden dawn’ for Nepal and Nepal people; he compared Mr Dahal to Napoleon and great Russian revolutionary Lenin.
Evidently, Prachanda led an ultra-left revolutionary movement in Nepal for more than a decade, and only last year he accepted ballot instead of bullet to seize state. He was born in higher caste (Brahmin) in caste ridden Hindu society of Nepal, but over-pervading poverty in his nation led him to socialist movement and soon he left his teaching job and became a Maoist revolutionary.
Commenting on the latest development in Nepal politics, UN Sec. General Ban Ki-moon said that all parties should cooperate with the new government in order to carry forward Nepal's peace process. In similar statement US embassy stated that US would work with the new government even though it has blacklisted the Maoists. EU too welcomed new PM, and so did Japan.
