Powerset on Sunday launched Wikipedia search tool which would use common phrases instead of keywords while searching any content. This marks Powerset's initial step to establish internet surf services like Google. The new technology launched by Powerset takes the sense of the sentences and words rather than matching the Meta data of the exact words. The technology would help users to get large scale information on a particular topic rather than isolated links which require further research.
Powerset is all set to change the way the world searches for information. Currently while searching for content a user has to type the exact keywords in search engines like Google and Yahoo. Greg Sterling, an Internet analyst with Sterling Market Intelligence said that the new technology is extremely user friendly, and the user can find anything they are looking for on the web. Powerset's Wikipedia search tool is being used to show how the technology will be used to search through a large number of websites.
Subsequently, it aims to enter into partnerships with other sites where one can get information in question and answer form. Powerset's future plans include selling advertisements along with its search services. Currently the company has only 60 employees who are either linguists or computer scientists. There are no advertisement staffs and there are only a few employees in the name of marketing and support staffs. When asked, Microsoft's and Powersets' spokesmen declined to comment on a potential tie up between the two companies.
