Japan’s north-east coast was hit by a potent earthquake of 7.2 magnitude on Saturday, June 14, 2008, due to which at least 40 people are reported to have got injured. Japan's meteorological agency issued a tsunami alert, but it was removed after just two small waves a couple of centimeters high crashed against the coastline. The epicenter of this earthquake is believed to be situated some 20 km below the ocean off the Miyagi prefecture, striking at around 1146 (0246GMT).
But it even shook buildings in Japan’s capital city, Tokyo located about 300 km away. Most of the casualties reported in this Japan quake happened due to the collapse of a swimming pool roof top in the Sendai city, Miyagi prefecture. The reports that came in initially, however, suggested that 80 people have got hurt in the quake. It was later announced by NHK, the state broadcaster that one person has got acutely hurt, whereas 13 others have suffered slight injury.
