The Panama-Costa Rica border experienced a powerful earthquake on November 19, 2008. The tremor of 6.3 magnitude jolted the region at around 1.10 am local time. No news of any causalities or serious damage has been reported. As per the reports of the Geoscience Institute at Panama University, the epicenter of the quake was located at 220 southeast of San Jose, Costa Rica and 55km southwest of Panama’s David city. Although the tremor has caused no serious harm to the inhabitants, but seven homes were damaged and one house collapsed in Baru district.
 
Apart for these, a school in Puerto Armuelles was also damaged by the earthquake.  The tremor which shook the border region of the two Central American countries took place 10 km below the ground. Panama is the southernmost country of Central America which is bordered by Costa Rica to the north-west, Colombia to the south-east, the Caribbean Sea to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south. Panama is the third largest economy in Central America. Costa Rica is also a Central American country which shares its border with the Republic of Panama.
