Political parties across the country welcomed the Honorable Supreme Court’s verdict on 27 per cent reservation for OBC’s in higher educational Institutions. The Congress hailed the verdict as ‘landmark judgment’. The Congress party also remarked on Thursday that all the protests and ‘motivated allegations’ surrounding the reservation have been silenced now. However, the Lok Janshakti party opposed the exclusion of creamy layer from reservation.

Abhishek Singhvi, Spokesperson of AICC lauded the verdict and asserted that this was the most significant initiative of the Congress party. Mr. Singhvi remarked that the initiative of Congress party was aimed at providing co-ownership to the educational facilities for the backward classes in the country. On the exclusion of the creamy layer, the Congress spokesperson stated that the verdict is a middle path and does not take away the basic thrust of the judgment.

The historic verdict is believed to greatly raise popularity of the Congress party in the coming elections. The CPI(M), also hailed the verdict and commented that the Central Government should take immediate steps to implement the verdict in higher educational Institutions. Regional political parties also welcomed the SC verdict. Leaders of various Political parties in Tamil Nadu welcomed the Supreme Court’s judgment and thanked Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who were at the forefront in bringing the quota legislation.
