The Economic Advisory Council of Prime Minister has called for providing more focus on agriculture and power sectors for the next few years.
"Over the medium term, we need to largely focus on two major sectors, agriculture and power," C. Rangarajan, the chairman of the advisory council, said, while addressing the media during the release of "Economic Outlook for 2009-10" in New Delhi.
"In the power sector, we really need to ensure that the target we have earmarked is realised. We are already short of target. We have to add 50,000 MW in last two years of the 11th plan," he said.
Rangarajan also called for measures to ensure a good rabi crop. "We hope that the Rabi output would be good." He added that a decline in the production of foodgrains can pose a negative impact on agriculture GDP.
Rangarajan also stated that this year's erratic monsoon has impacted the agriculture growth rate.
The council has projected a growth of 6.5 percent in the current fiscal.
