The National Security Guard (NSG) received a package of Rs 200 million from prime minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday (January 27). The money has been sanctioned for the welfare of the elite security force of the country. According to a statement released from Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the grant has been made by the prime minister out of the National Defence Fund.
The NSG will invest the money in fixed deposits which will be spent for the welfare activities of the force. The Rs 200-million fund will also be utilised for making ex-gratia payments to the commandos who lost their lives in the Operation Black Tornado against the terrorists who attacked Mumbai on November 26, 2008.
Created by the Cabinet Secretariat under the National Security Guard Act of the Parliament in 1985, the NSG engages itself in countering any kind of terrorist activities. The NGS commandos known as black cats played a very instrumental role during the 26/11 Mumbai atrocities. The gutsy NSG commandos successfully flushed out the gunmen who took captive some of the major buildings of Mumbai.
