Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, inaugurating a two-day global conference in New Delhi, showed concerns over growing risk of terrorists acquiring nuclear weapons. He said that to cope up with the issue of nuclear proliferation universal N-disarmament is essential. He asked for global, universal and non-discriminatory nuclear disarmament with time bound implementation. He said that Indian ex-prime minister Rajiv Gandhi had strong belief in disarmament for safe and non-violent world.

Prime Minister proposed for three-stage nuclear weapons elimination scheme. He said that India is ever ready for debate on nuclear disarmament for a view to constructing a consensus on disarmament and non-proliferation of nukes.

Dr Manmohan Singh felt the need of collective approach and universal partnership supported by NGOs and public opinion. The conference will last for two days and is organized by Indian council of World Affairs. Diplomats and disarmament experts from US, Australia, China and Canada are expected to attend the conference.
