UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has mentioned that the strengthened steps adopted for tackling the ship seizures off the Somali coast have forced pirates to venture into the Indian Ocean and more recently closer to the Seychelles
In a report to the UN Security Council, Ban said the expanding international maritime presence is playing a critical role in stabilising the situation at sea.
He also mentioned in the report, which was circulated on Monday that the incidents of piracy and armed robbery have come down to a great extent after naval ships as well as military aircraft have been deployed in the Somali coast. He has applauded the efforts taken by the ships, transiting the area, to protect themselves.
