Scientists at a Danish research farm have developed a technique by which the pig manure can be used as a source of electricity. This could be an ideal way to utilize the large chunk of pig manure created by hog farms throughout the world.
Pig manure from the hog farms not only creates lots of garbage but also pollute rivers, groundwater and air by releasing toxic methane and carbon dioxide.
They employed this technique by which the waste product can utilized in a proper manner to produce energy as well as preventing green house gas emission to the environment.
There are various ways of converting the pig manure to a material source for generating electricity. The first one is to use the manure in anaerobic digestion, where the bacteria break down waste material by warming it in an oxygen-free vessel and in the second method, the incinerators are used to burn material to boil water, which in turn operates the steam turbines.
According to Trakarn Prapaspongsa, the lead scientist at Aalborg University, if high-efficiency energy is to be produced, then anaerobic digestion is the best way to convert pig poos into ‘green’ power. But if checking the green house gas emission is also considered, then the incineration technique is the best alternative.
