To broaden the choice before tourists visiting India, the Punjab Farm Tourism Scheme will soon be introduced by the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board (PHTPB). The scheme seeks to provide a rural tourism feel to tourists and therefore invites active participation from both private sector farmers and farm house owners.  

 

Under this the Punjab Farm Tourism Scheme, attractive and well maintained farm houses will be roped in for tourists visit for two-year duration. The duration can also be extended if necessary. 'PHTPB is working for the implementation of this scheme. Only those farm houses that are fully developed will be given the enrolment forms,' said Deputy Director for Department of Tourism, Punjab, Surinder Bajaj.  

 

Mr Bajaj thereafter added that these farm house owners will serve as hosts as well as guides for the visiting tourists. 'The farm houses will have to provide a clean, hygienic environment with modern facilities for the comfort of visitors, which meets the standard defined by Punjab Tourism or the PHTPB,' Mr Bajaj concluded.
