People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), in a letter sent to Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachhan, has requested to ensure that no non-vegetarian food is served at the Live Earth India concert slated to be held on December 7. PETA has also congratulated the superstar for bringing the international event to India that will showcase acts by Roger Waters and Bon Jovi.

PETA's Chief Functionary, Anuradha Sawhney requested the actor to ensure that no meat is served at the event to honour the spirit and goal of Live Earth by serving only vegetarian food. She added that selling meat at a concert to benefit the environment would be like selling cigarettes at a cancer charity fund-raiser.

PETA is backing the cause as they believe that shifts in diet lower greenhouse-gas emissions faster than shifts away from the fossil-fuel-burning technologies that emit carbon dioxide. To support this, PETA has cited a UN report titled Livestock's Long Shadow which states that raising animals for food generates more greenhouse-gas emissions than all the cars, trucks, ships and planes in the world combined.

Amitabh Bachhan would be joined by a whole host of Bollywood celebrities including his son and daughter-in-law, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachhan, Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Bipasha Basu, Shiamak Davar, Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Hard Kaur, Jalebee Cartel, Vishal & Shekhar, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Sunidhi Chauhan, Sonu Nigam and Shaan and musician Anoushka Shankar. Grammy Award winner Bon Jovi will also perform on the occasion.
