World's leading social networking site, Facebook will offer personalized URLs to its users from June 13 onwards. The new move will allow the members to register their own user names to make it easier for others to find their pages. With the help of the personalized, people will get a unique address for themselves unlike the current system whereby profile pages have a URL with a randomly assigned number.
Informing about the newly proposed system, Facebook designer Blaise DiPersia stated that the user names will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis. DiPersia added this will create a rush among the users to grab their favourite names first. As a result of which, Facebook has created a special page, where people can choose their user names on the day of the release of personalized URLs.
According to Blaise DiPersia, the social networking site is offering personalized URLs so that it becomes easier for people to connect with others, find common friends and even get listed in the search engine. Facebook expects to offer even more ways to use one's user name in the future, added DiPersia. In order to avail the new system on Facebook, the username should have five alphanumeric characters. The new facility will be available to existing members who had signed up before the announcement.
