A study team at Edinburgh University has found that use of perfume by pregnant moms may cause infertility in boys. Scientists link use of perfumes and other scented products during pregnancy with infertility in unborn baby boys. The study establishes that exposure to chemicals found in cosmetics during the 8th and 12th weeks of gestation might affect later sperm production in unborn boys.

According to researchers at Edinburgh, the study done on animals revealed that certain chemicals found in cosmetics, household fabrics and plastics have blocking ability to block the action of androgen. Androgen is male sex hormone, and blocking of it leads to future reproductive problems. The researchers reached onto another finding that excess use of such chemicals may heighten up chances of testicular cancer in baby boys.

Earlier, in a similar study, researchers had reached onto the conclusion that women who wear too much perfume may be suffering from weak olfactory sense due to depression. The study had concluded that auto antibodies are responsible for attacking the olfactory system, weakening the sense of smell and increasing the risk of depression.
