After severe protests against the Olympic Torch relay in San Francisco, London and Paris, the torch relay was peaceful in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires. The relay had to cover 13 km route and there were speculations that here too the relay would face stiff protests.

Though there were protests, but they were peaceful and the activists said that they would not try to extinguish the flame during the relay. It is to be noted that thousands of Tibetan supporters are protesting against the Chinese policies on Tibet and in the process they have also interrupted the Olympic Torch Relay. Though before the start of the relay there was some shouting but there was no major scuffle between the protestors and the police.

The area was heavily guarded by the police officials incase there was some interruption, but the Tibetan activists promised that they would protest peacefully and would not try to put off the flame, unlike in London and Paris. Recently, the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama had urged the Tibetan protestors not to interrupt the Olympic flame. But the flame still has a long way to go before arriving in China.
