Nadeem Akram, a senior member of the Pakistan Cricket Board, has flown down to Dubai to help Pakistani Pacer Mohd Asif who has been detained at the international airport allegedly for carrying contraband drugs. In Dubai, Akram will coordinate with the Pakistan embassy officials and try to solve the issue. The senior PCB official informed from Dubai that he is maintaining constant touch with the concerned authorities.
He further clarified that the Pakistani pacer has not yet been arrested, but just detained by the Dubai custom officials. In the meantime, it is reported that the controversial substance that was recovered from Asif’s luggage has been sent for laboratory testing. Nadeem Akram stated it will become clear what the substance is only after the results of the lab test is out and that the situation is being handled in a very transparent manner.
It is since Sunday that Mohd Asif has been detained by the custom officials in Dubai for allegedly carrying the contraband drugs. This happened while he was returning home after participating in the IPL match. It has been decided by the Pakistan Cricket Board to convene a meeting on this issue on 3 June. Mohd Asif is supposed to appear before a magistrate in Dubai and will probably be granted bail.
