Louisville-based Papa John's International Inc., which is the third largest chain of carryout and delivery pizza restaurants in the United States, has touched the $ one billion mark in revenues through its online sale. It made this announcement on Wednesday 7 May and at the same time highlighted that its online sale in the United States has been escalating at an average of over 50 per cent each year.
Papa John’s witnessed profits from the online sale of its pizzas to the tune of $20.4 million in 2001 when it launched its online ordering service. The sales figure jumped to a whooping $400 million the previous year. Jim Ensign, vice president of marketing communications at Papa John's remarked that the chain took seven years to touch the one billion mark through its online sale. He added that if sales online continued at the same pace, then the company would take less than even three years to hit the next billion.
