Palm Inc today unveiled a new Smartphone called the Pixi. The company has already released its Pre Smartphone few months back. The new Pixi targets the younger generation and will be longer but thinner than the Pre.

The Pixi which weighs just 3.5 ounces comes with a smaller multi-touch screen, a full QWERTY keyboard, and a 2-megapixel camera. The smaller smartphone will have 8GB of memory and GPS capabilities like its predecessor. The Palm's Synergy feature in the new Smartphone enables the integration of LinkedIn contacts and Yahoo contacts, calendar and IM in a single view.

Palm chairman and chief executive officer, Jon Rubinstein said in a statement, "With Palm WebOS, we're creating a new, more intuitive Smartphone experience defined by unmatched simplicity and usefulness. Palm Pixi brings this unique experience to a broader range of people who want enhanced messaging and social networking in a design that lets them express their personal style."

The unveiling of this new Smartphone comes less than 4 months after the launch of Pre. The company claims that it has registered record sales of Pre after it hit the stores in June 2009. Even though the sales data of Pre has not been disclosed by Palm, analysts have come up with figures ranging between 50,000 and 100,000 units.

The company has also dropped the price of its Pre to $150 with a two-year service agreement and two rebates. Even though the price for Pixi has not been disclosed, the company has promised that it will come at a lesser cost than Pre.
