Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani-American woman scientist strongly suspected of having links with the Al-Qaida, was captured in Kabul on Monday, August 4, informed US authorities. She mysteriously disappeared in 2003 causing many to believe that she was in the Pakistani or American custody, consequently giving a sordid picture of the war against terror.

A mother of three, Aafia Siddiqui is an MIT alumna with a doctorate in neurosciences. It was during a visit to Karachi five years back when she disappeared all of a sudden. It was then believed that she has been captured by the Pakistani and/or US intelligence agencies due to her alleged terrorist links.

The FBI on Monday, however, declared that the now 36 year-old Aafia Siddiqui got nabbed in Afghanistan sometime in the mid-July this year. As per the information provided by the FBI, Aafia Siddiqui was spotted by Ghazni province officers outside the governor’s compound on July 17, 2008. She looked suspicious, which goaded the ANP officials to check her handbag.

The FBI reports that they found documents describing the making of explosives as well as excerpts from the Anarchist's Arsenal. There were also papers in her handbag which described the numerous landmarks in the United States. Siddiqui was also in possession of substances that were sealed in bottles and glass jars, the FBI said.
