The prominent human rights activist of Pakistan, Ansar Burney who raised his voice for the release of Indian death row prisoners Kashmir Singh and Sarabjit Singh in Pakistan, was on Saturday 31 May deported from New Delhi back to Dubai. Sources inform that Ansar Burney, who has served as the Human Rights Minister in the interim government in Pakistan, was deported from New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport by an Emirates Airways flight due to a ‘look out’ notice served against him.
The officials from the Home Ministry, however, are not aware of who served this notice and in what connection. Some from the Ministry of External Affairs, on the other hand, say that Ansar Burney’s deportation could have been because of ‘some mistake’.
The point to be noticed is that Burney had visited India recently in April this year and met with Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon. Some days before this, he had met Sarabjit’s family in Amritsar. It was Burney’s son who, via e-mail, informed few journalists in Delhi about the deportation of Ansar Burney.
