The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced on Friday, August 22, that the Presidential election in Pakistan will be held on September 6. ECP Secretary Kanwar Dilshad informed that from August 26 onwards the nomination papers will be received.

 

The ECP Secretary was further quoted by the Dawn TV channel as saying that if necessary, then the polling will be convened from 10 am to 3 pm at the Provincial and National Assemblies concurrently. The President's election will be done by the Electoral College that will comprise four Provincial Assemblies, the National Assembly and the Senate.

 

It was on Monday, August 18 that Pervez Musharraf resigned from the President's post to escape impeachment. The constitution of Pakistan rules that Presidential election has to be held within 30 days of the President's resignation.
