On Sunday, 13th June 2008, Pakistan rejected the claim, made by India, that its Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) was involved in the last week suicide attack on Indian embassy, in Kabul. The statement came after National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan had claimed on Saturday (12th June 2008) that there was “fair amount” of intelligence inputs, pointing out the involvement of Pakistan in suicide attack on its embassy in Kabul.

Rubbishing the claim, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said there was considerable improvement in the relation between Islamabad and New Delhi. He said that at such a point of time, his country had nothing to gain by instigating such an attack and thereby, curtailing the improving relations. As per him, Pakistan is trying to be supportive in whatever way it can and has its personal interest in a peaceful and stable Afghanistan.

Pakistan Defence Minister Chaudhary Ahmed Mukhtar told a private TV channel that it was “inappropriate” for India, to make such allegations, especially without any credible evidence. At the same time, he said that even after the accusation, there would not be any negative impact on the India-Pakistan peace process. M.K. Narayanan claim came on the same day when US accused Pakistani security agencies of backing Taliban and Al Qaeda.
