Shafqat Rana has been appointed as the manager of the national junior team until next year’s ICC Youth World Cup in New Zealand by Pakistan Cricket Board. Rana was just few days ago dismissed as assistant manager of the senior team.
A PCB source said, “It is no secret that Younus was not happy with the roles of manager, Yawar Saeed and Shafqat who was supposed to replace him in the long run. But the PCB has apparently decided to utilise the services of Shafqat Rana with the junior team.”
There were several significant changes in the senior team of Pakistan last week. PCB replaced Saeed with Abdul Raquib, Rana with Asad Mustafa and appointed Aaqib Javed as assistant coach in place of fielding coach Mohtashim Rasheed.
The source said, “Everyone knows that Yawar (Saeed) has a 50 year old friendship with PCB chairman Ejaz Butt and apparently he ensured that Shafqat’s services were utilised elsewhere if not with the senior team.”
