Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed legendary leg-spinner Abdul Qadir as the new chief selector. According to a statement from the chairman of PCB, Ijaz Butt, the new chief selector will immediately form a strong and balanced Pakistan squad for the upcoming home series against India in Jan-Feb next year. Ijaz Butt hopes the Qadir will hold the new office with immense responsibility. 
 
Butt also informed that apart from Qadir, there will be two more former test cricketers in PCB's selection committee. It is expected that Saleem Jaffer and Shoaib Mohammad are the two names that are considered by the board. Saleem Jaffer was heading the interim selection committee while Shoaib Mohammad is a former Pakistan test opener. After his appointment as the chief selector of PCB, Qadir expressed his happiness and stated that it was a big honour for him. He also said that the job of a selector is not easy at all, as he has to select the best squad as well as give chances to new comer.
 
The 53-year-old veteran Pakistani cricketer assured to work for the betterment of the Pakistan cricket team. He hopes to select a strong team that will face the archrivals India in January next year. Pakistan will play three tests, five ODIs and a Twenty20 International match against India in their home soil. The new chief selector, Abdul Qadir has tremendous bowling records in both forms of cricket with 236 wickets in 67 tests and 132 scalps from 104 one-day internationals.
