Finally, the government of Pakistan admitted that a part of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack was planned in the country. While addressing a busy news conference, the interior minister of Pakistan, Rehman Malik stated that the terrorists who attacked India's financial capital and killed more than 170 people were non-state actors. Malik said that the gunmen had created terror for their own motives. According to him, both India and Pakistan need to work together to find out the motives behind the attacks.
Admitting that some part of conspiracy was hatched in Pakistan, Rehman Malik said that a major part of the terror attack was shaped in India. Malik said that the first information report (FIR), registered in Islamabad on February 12, has named nine accused people. The list include Zakiur Rahman Lakhvi, leader of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone terrorist nabbed during the Mumbai mayhem, as well as Javed Iqbal of Barcelona who was convicted of playing a role in the funding the attackers.
The interior minister of Pakistan also informed that the mastermind of the 26/11 attack has been located and is under investigation. He however, declined to mention the name of the alleged mastermind. Malik said that the Pakistan authorities have arrested as many as six persons for having connection with the Mumbai incidents.
Earlier the government of Pakistan refused to admit that the 10 gunmen had any links with the country. Out of the 10 terrorist, nine of them were killed during the anti-terror operations by Indian security forces. Only Ajmal Amir Kasab was captured alive who is currently in Indian custody. Meanwhile, India has welcomed the new development in Pakistan. According to former foreign secretary, Lalit Mansingh, the new revelation is a positive step. Rehman Malik assured that Pakistan leadership is fully concerned and serious in bringing all the culprits to justice.
