A fire broke out in two of Padmavati Express train's AC coaches in the wee hours of Wednesday, September 24, 2008 in Prakasham district of Andhra Pradesh. Fortunately no casualty was reported from this mishap. A spokesperson from the South Central Railway said that three passengers suffered breathlessness as a result of smoke.
Navin Chand, the Prakasham district Superintendent of Police, informed it was around 3.30 am that the fire was detected and that the train then was between Lavapadu and Tettu station in the district. Plumes of smoke and fire were detected gushing out from the rear of one of the two AC coaches, after which the passengers pulled the chain to halt train.
Thereafter the fire was noticed in another AC coach of the Padmavati Express train which operates between Secunderabad-Tirupathi. The railway personnel swiftly separated the two bogies of the train and evacuated the passengers. Sources informed that a team of forensic experts have been sent to find out what caused the fire in the Padmavati Express.
