The home minister of India P Chidambaram is likely to visit all the states of the country over the next two-three months to review the security arrangements prevailing in the states. The decision was made by the home minister while he was reviewing the headquarters of the Delhi Police on Monday (January 5). He revealed that it very important to visit the states in order to gauge their position as far as countering terrorism is concerned.
Chidambaram has already reviewed the state of Assam, last week. While visiting the Delhi police, he said that he has come to review the force’s preparedness in the fight against terrorism. The home minister also held a meeting which was attended by Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal, all special police commissioners, joint commissioners, additional commissioners and district deputy commissioners.
While addressing the meeting Chidambaram said that terrorism is not the only challenge, the police will have to keep an eye over the law and order situation, women's security, enforcement of traffic rules etc. He also added the force should engage itself in gathering and sharing of intelligence. He stressed the importance of strengthening the forces and procuring technical equipments for the cops.
According to the home minister, all the states of the country share the same problem so by the next two-three months he will review all the states. Chadambaram is supposed to meet all the CMs of the states on January 6 and he feels that such meeting should be exercised regularly. During his visit at the headquarters of Delhi Police, the home minister also discussed about National Investigation Agency (NIA).
