Last seen in the thriller 'Manorama Six Feet Under', that too in 2007, Abhay Deol will be playing the central character once again. He is all set to reach the masses, with the movie 'Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!'. It has been produced by Ronnie Screwala and will be released under the banner 'UTV Motion Pictures' Directed by Dibakar Banerjee, the film has also has Paresh Rawal, Manu Rishi, Richa Chadda, Anurag Arora, Rajinder Sethi, Abhay Deol, Neetu Chandra, Archana Puran Singh and Manjyot Singh in the star cast.
The story of 'Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!' revolves around the life of Lucky (Abhay Deol), a con-man who rises from the inner city ghetto of West Delhi. Brought up in an estranged and fragmented lower middle class Sikh family, the 15-year-old Lucky is tormented by his bullying father every now and then. He finds solace in watching and studying the world around him, which ranges from those moving in swanky cars to petty criminals scrapping to make ends meet. Observing the big, bad world, he makes a simple mantra in life - 'if you don’t have it, steal it'.
Lucky, along with his childhood friend Bangali, grows up to become a full-fledged thief and comes across Gogi Bhai, the leader of a music band, who also serves as his fence for stolen goods. Gogi becomes a surrogate father for Lucky, changing his course of life in the coming days. Within no time, Lucky becomes the best in his trade. As time passes, he comes across a number of characters - Dolly - the hostile, cynical star dancer of Gogis' band, and Sonal, Dolly's younger sister. With the latter, he gets involved in a tentative romance as well.
As Lucky gets deeply involved in his trade, his ambition as well as his hunger for the unreachable grows. Somewhere along the way, he is betrayed by someone very close and this changes the path of his life completely. Now, he wants not only money, but also the respectability and social standing of a gentleman. Still, the flamboyant playboy wants to retain the freedom to steal, everything that he desires, but doesn’t get. However, this is just one part of Lucky. The other part, which no one knows about, comprises of a thief who steals not only millions, but also a teddy bear and a framed photo of a family playing in the snow.
