Students from India have been rated as amongst the best in the world by Chris Patten, the Chancellor of Oxford University, who said that the institution wants to woo more of them to its campus. The Oxford University has had the likes of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia on its rolls. It was informed that at present the University has got 257 Indian students, though it is the Chinese students who account for nearly one-third of its students. Maximum Indian students are in the Oxford’s Said Business School.

‘We want more Indian students because we want the best in the world to come to Oxford,’ Mr Patten remarked. He also informed that around a quarter of the Indian students are doing their MBAs and that he wants more of them in streams like social sciences and humanities, engaged in both under and post graduate work. The Chancellor of the Oxford University further underscored that even though there were more of Chinese students on the campus, it were the Indians who secured more scholarships. Mr Chris Patten said that as the financial position of the institution improved, the number of scholarships will also go up.
