Renowned lyricist Gulzar will be honoured with the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award for cinematic contribution by the 11th edition of the annual Osian's-Cinefan Film Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema.
The award will be given to the Oscar-winning lyricist-writer-director at the opening ceremony on Saturday in the presence of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
The award focuses on the 73-year-old's creativity and contribution to entertainment that goes beyond cultural, linguistic and other boundaries, said a press statement released here Tuesday.
Gulzar, whose first hit song was ‘Mera gora ang lai le’ for the film ‘Bandini’ and is the author to numerous hits including ‘Is mod se jaate hain’, Roz roz ankhon tale, Aaj kal paaun zameen pa" and Khali haath shaam aayee" His chartbusters in the recent timnes include Beeed Jalia Le, Kajra re and Chaiyya Chaiyya.
He also directed critically acclaimed movies like "Aandhi", "Parichay", "Mausam", "Ijaazat", "Lekin" and "Maachis".
The fest will be held at the Siri Fort Complex in the capital till Oct 30.
