Renowned makeup, creature and visual effects wizard, Stan Winston passed away on Sunday, battling multiple myeloma – a tumor formed by the cells of bone marrow. The 62 year old Oscar winning effects specialist had been fighting the disease for seven long years. The visual effects wizard is known for his work in films like Aliens, Judgment Day, Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park.
For the four times Oscar winner, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger remarked that the industry has lost a genius and he has lost one of his best friends. Winston is known for almost single-handedly elevating the craft of creature making from rubber suit monsters of the 1950s to animatronics – electronically animated creatures. Winston received his star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame in 2001 and recently worked on the blockbuster Iron Man. Winston and his team also recently created the crystal skeletons for ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’.
