Next week the Orissa government will hold discussions with the Centre to decide on its share in the two proposed mega thermal power plants proposed to be set up by NTPC in the state. Official sources informed this to the media.

The decision to hold a discussion within a week or 10 days was taken at a meeting between the chief minister Naveen Patnaik and the visiting union minister of state for commerce and power Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday (21st January).

Mr Ramesh justified Orissa’s demand for a big share in NTPC’s two proposed power projects. He further added that, as the state would provide land, water and coal for these projects, the Centre was open to discuss the issue with it.

NTPC had proposed to set up two thermal power stations in Orissa. The capacity of each of the two power stations will be 3200 mw and will be built at a cost of Rs 20,000 crore to Rs 25,000 crore.

While one project was to be installed at Darlipalli in Sundargarh, another would be located at Gajamara in Dhenkanal district.
