MySQL co-founder Monty Widenius has challenged Oracle’s $7 billion acquisition offer of Sun Microsystems.
Accordingly, he has filed an appeal against the European Commission's decision to allow software maker Oracle to go ahead with the takeover.
Widenius had sold his shares of MySQL to Sun Microsystems in 2008 and now appealed against the takeover bid citing anti-trust concerns.
According to Widenius, Oracle being a rival of Sun Microsystems, would endanger the future prospects of open source database like MySQL.
However, Oracle could get the approval for the take over after convincing the EC that the company would ensure MySQL's steady growth.
A spokesperson for the EC said the Commission will provide a suitable reply soon.
