Opera Software’s popular mobile browser ‘Opera Mini 5’ was released on Sep 16. Opera Mini 5 comes with additional features and a new UI.
The browser is compatible with several devices such as Windows Mobile, BlackBerry smartphones and feature phones with Java ME.The server-side compression technology makes it compatible with multiple platforms. The technology eases the bandwidth and hardware requirements for surfing web through the mobile.
The latest version of opera improves the page load time by compressing the page which can be done up to 90%.The new features in Opera Mini 5 include tabbed browsing, a password manager and improved scrolling. The touch-screen handsets have been bettered with a refined user interface.
Some of the features of Opera’s desktop browser have been incorporated in Mini 5 which includes the "speed dial" feature. The beta version can be downloaded directly to a phone from Opera's Web site.
Opera is one of the leading players in the mobile browsing space and captures about 25% of the mobile surfing market. The competition level in the market for mobile browsing has increased to a great extent. Apple's mobile Safari seconds the race with 22% of the market and followed by Nokia capturing 21%.
