The Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) of India has planned to implement a uranium project in Gujarat. The company had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in uranium mining with Uranium Corporation of India Ltd (UCIL) earlier this year. As per the officials of ONGC, the company has discovered some radioactive material in the oil wells throughout Gujarat, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The announcement to plunge into exploration of Uranium was made by ONGC at its golden jubilee celebration in Gujarat.
The chairman and managing director of ONGC, R S Sharma confirmed that the company has found the traces of uranium in the oil wells that were dug in the Gujarat. After analyzing the collected data from the oil wells of the state if the result comes out to be positive, the company along with UCIL will go for uranium mining, he stated. The sates of Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh will also be approached. Meanwhile, ONGC is planning a world uranium project along with its ally UCIL. The two companies are in partnership of 74:24 ratio, with ONGC enjoying the position of major stakeholder.
