The Indian Premier League, which has always been related to sensational stories, is in the headlines again. This time, IPL has been rocked by scandal, in which one of the players has turned out to be positive in the doping test. The identity of the player has not been been revealed. The sample was taken during a random test in the inaugural session of the IPL and tested at World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accredited laboratory. The testing of the players was done by International Doping Tests & Management.
Starting from May 18 and throughout the tournament, two players from each team were randomly picked after a match, through a draw by rival team managers. They were then asked to appear for dope tests. The samples arrived with a code given to each player, to protect their identity. Though the name of the player has been kept under wraps, he is believed to be a sub-continental fast bowler. In fact, speculations are rife that the player in the question could be Pakistani pacer and Delhi Daredevils player Mohammad Asif. He was detained in Dubai in June 2008, in a drug possession case.
