The Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh has said on Monday 21 April that he is in favor of apposite remuneration for the officials of the civil and defence services. By saying this, the PM has lessened the level of anxiety among government servants in India over the Pay Commission recommendations.
Addressing senior officers on the Civil Services Day, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh remarked that when the Pay Commission put forward its report recently, it gave rise to some apprehensions among certain sections of the civil services. Stating that the civil and defence services should be properly rewarded, the PM said that he hoped the tax payers will not grudge anyone of better remuneration as long as one was serving people in the best interests and efficiently.
Dr Manmohan Singh said that the government has already activated the mechanism for hearing and rectifying the complaints of the government servants. Following disapproval over the recommendations, the government previous week declared the establishment of a high-level official committee led by Cabinet Secretary, KM Chandrasekhar to process the report of the sixth Pay Commission. The PM also stated that with enhanced work conditions, he expected the highest standards of discipline and decorum from all civil servants.
