Finally, all sorts of confusion were cleared off when National Conference (NC) patron Farooq Abdullah proposed the name of his son Omar Abdullah for the office of the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. While interacting with media, Farooq Abdullah stated that he will recommend his party to approve Omar for the CM post. He said that he reconsidered his decision throughout the night and came to a conclusion that the state needs a younger Chief Minister.
Earlier, senior Abdullah had wished to become the chief minister of J&K. Even Omar Abdullah had also supported his father's decision. Meanwhile there are reports in media that the Congress which is going to form a coalition government with NC, has been considering Omar Abdullah rather than his father for the CM post. Congress president Sonia Gandhi is likely to meet the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and senior party leader from the state, Saifuddin Soz in New Delhi Monday afternoon to discuss the matter.
Report says that Congress party is not inclined to go with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led by Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, which bagged 21 seats in J&K polls. While Congress-NC coalition will have 45 seats, one above the halfway mark, Congress plus PDP does not get to the halfway mark and any such coalition will need support from independents. NC emerged as the single largest party in the J&K polls with 28 seats and Congress managed to bag 17 seats.
