Veteran actor, Om Puri will be taking over as the chairperson of the National Film Development Corporation Limited (NFDC). The news about Om Puri being appointed NFDC Chairman comes almost a year since film distributor and financier Manmohan Shetty gave up the post. 

A source informs that the Information and Broadcasting ministry has encharged the National Film Development Corporation Limited with the job of commissioning a film to celebrate the 150th year of the 1857 Uprising.  

 

Well-known Indian film writer and director, Vinay Shukla will be directing this film and actor Akshay Kumar will be playing the lead role. Further on, this film will be produced by Firoz Nadiadwala in collaboration with NFDC and is based on Tatya Tope. Tantya Tope (1814 - 1859), who is also known as Ram Chandra Pandurang, was a prominent Indian leader in the Indian rebellion of 1857.
