The Olympic Torch has now touched the Thailand soil for the Olympic Torch relay to be held in the southeast Asian country on Saturday, 19 April 2008. The torch arrived in Bangkok amidst heightened security in a special chartered plane. A large number of policemen were guarding Bangkok’s military air force headquarters as the torch arrived here in a flight from Delhi. Earlier in Delhi, the relay passed off peacefully with the Tibetans organizing a parallel peace rally in the capital city of India.
In Bangkok also, hundreds of Tibetan protestors are expected to join the Olympic Torch relay route. The torch’s 10.5 km long relay is a much longer route than the 3 km long route of Delhi. However, the relay route in Bangkok is also set to experience some very high security. The Delhi Olympic Torch relay witnessed thousands of security men on the three km route which is believed to have experienced tighter security than what is arranged during the Republic Day celebration.
