The Olympic flame has now sojourned at Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. The torch arrived here on Sunday, April 20, 2008 amidst tight security. The torch arrived in a special flight from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur along with heavy Chinese security at 2.19 am. The Chinese ambassador along with two Malaysian Olympic committee members received the torch at the airport. The Olympic relay in Malaysia is a 16 km long run which will include some prominent landmark of the capital state.
It is believed that about more than thousand policemen and special commandos will be present on the relay route to prevent any unwanted incident and protests. The officials have revealed that the Olympic flame will be kept at a secret place before it is brought in front of the public on Monday, April 21, 2008 for the Malaysian leg of the Olympic relay.
The Olympic torch was also received in a warm welcome by the 300 Chinese students studying in Malaysia. A police source has revealed that the Malaysian authorities have not as yet received any prior intimation of anti-China protests. Few of the eighty people nominated to participate in the Malaysian leg of the Olympic relay are women’s world squash champion Nicol David, swimmer Lim Keng Liat and Olympic badminton medalists Rashid Sidek, Yap Kim Hock and Cheah Soon Kit among other sportspersons.
